biography

Philippe Bordas was born in 1961, he lives and works in Paris.

Philippe Bordas is a writer and a photographer. Through these practices, his purpose is to take out from the oblivion the figures of a popular aristocracy – from surbubs and ghettos, who builded them up a destiny and gave birth to a singular style – and glorify them.

As a writer, he published « Forcenés » in 2008 and « L’invention de l’écriture » in 2010 at the Editions Fayard and « Chant Furieux » in 2014 and « Coeur-Volant » at the Editions Gallimard. In 1996, he did a residency at the Villa Medicis. He is regularly exhibit during Paris Photo. In 2010, he built up a retrospective « L’Afrique Héroique » at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie.

His photographs are part of several collections :
Collection personnelle du roi Mohammed VI, Maroc.
FNAC. Fonds National d’Art Contemporain.
MEP. Maison Européenne de la Photographie.
Galeries Photo Fnac.
Fondation Bernard Magrez.
Musée Géo-Charles, Echirolles.
Collections privées.
